Spring Break Plans!

Having almost my entire last term of my senior year cancelled wasn’t ideal. Now I have to think about things like “how in the world am I going to manage an entire month of eLearning when I can hardly handle a few days?” and “what’s going to happen to my senior prom?” I know I’ll get through it, and I know I’ll be okay. But for now, the best thing is to just find other things to distract myself with, starting with home renovations!

This Spring break is going to be a bit different than in previous years. As it’s probably the same for most of you, The coronavirus has put a wrench in my plans. Instead of having one week off to fill with fun and sunshine, I now have 2 whole months where I’ll be stuck at my house. Although to be fair, half of the days will be eLearning days so I don’t fall behind in my classes.

Before I dive right into explaining my plans, let me tell you a bit about my house. It was built back in the year 1900, and will be celebrating its 120th birthday this year! Because it’s so old, it’s also a little rough as you can imagine. The floors creak if we step in certain spots, there are cracks in the plaster, and the basement floods when it rains. However, one of the reasons my parents picked out this house when I was three was because of the abundance of character! It has an open concept and many ways into every room, as well as a cute window between the kitchen and living room! We’e done our best to fix up almost every room over the past 15 years that we’ve lived here, and one of the final rooms that still needs fixing is going to get it!

Our stairs to the second level are covered with a very old carpet that leads into a hallway where we can access all of the bedrooms. The walls all the way up are white-ish, but the painting job was left unfinished about 7 years ago. The trim is a strange blue color, and the entire area just needs a fresh coat of paint and the stairs need major work. That’s where I come in! I’ve decided to make this project my baby, and will be tearing up the carpet and painting the stairs and the hallway. Because I decided to take up this project almost entirely by myself, my mom was courteous enough to let me pick out the colors of paint! For the walls, I chose an olive green, and the steps and trim will both be gray. However, the steps won’t be entirely gray. We’re going to paint the vertical parts black for some added contrast, and are looking into buying string lights to run up the sides of the steps.

As of Wednesday the 18th, I’ve got all of the carpet pulled off the stairs, and I sanded them down to where they’re ready to paint.

Although I didn’t get a before picture of the stairs and their horrendous carpet, I did manage to get a couple before pictures of the walls! Also, I’ll show you the colors bought to do the walls and stairs with once we open them up. (There’s an olive green, a gray, and some black.)

Anyways, I’ll likely update you all soon on what the room looks like once its finished. For now, stay safe from Covid-19, wash your hands, and cool it on the toilet paper buying. Have a great spring break!

Until next time, Haley🖤
